Second megalithic barrow at Prado de Lácara
A megalithic barrow some 300-400 metres from the Prado de Lácara dolmen, the great passage grave in the north of the municipality of Mérida. The municipal catalogue records it as a monument in its own right: the mound can be seen on the surface, with the chamber neither excavated nor exposed.

What it is and what is left
Its interest is that it confirms Lácara is not an isolated dolmen but a megalithic funerary group: passage graves in the south-west of the peninsula tend to cluster in cemeteries, and a second barrow a few hundred metres from the main one fits that pattern. Its date, by analogy with the neighbouring dolmen, falls between the late Neolithic and the Copper Age.
The references are Martín Almagro Basch's work on the passage grave of El Prado de Lácara (Revista de Estudios Extremeños 15) and Georg and Vera Leisner's catalogue of megalithic tombs of the western peninsula (Die Megalithgräber der Iberischen Halbinsel. Der Westen, Berlin, 1956). There is no published excavation of this second barrow. Location approximate.
