Casa de la Torre del Agua
The remains of a Roman house (domus) next to the Casa del Anfiteatro, in the residential district that spread outside the walls north of the amphitheatre of Augusta Emerita. Alfonso Marcos Pous first read them as part of the plan of the Casa del Anfiteatro itself, but later work by Blanco and Almagro leans towards an independent house, part of the same quarter as the Casa del Anfiteatro and the domus preserved in the basements of the National Museum of Roman Art.

What it is and what is left
The plan is almost unknown. What is documented amounts to two rooms paved with mosaics, separated by an ill-defined space from another rectangular room with an apse, plus a small stretch of what appears to be the peristyle. Its date falls between the 1st and 3rd centuries AD.
Its name comes from the Aqua Augusta conduit, whose course crosses this sector of the city on its way to the amphitheatre: that immediate presence makes the complex very hard to interpret, and the municipal catalogue notes that it would be necessary to define better which remains belong to it and tell them apart from the Casa del Anfiteatro. Its condition is poor and the remains very partial, though it is visited together with the Casa del Anfiteatro. The mosaics are the highlight. Part of the Archaeological Ensemble of Mérida, World Heritage (UNESCO, 1993).
