Roman road east of Augusta Emerita (Via XXV to Toletum)
A stretch of Roman road recorded some 3.5 km east of Mérida, on the continuation of the city's east–west axis. From its position it corresponds in all probability to the Via XXV of the Antonine Itinerary, the Augustan road that linked Augusta Emerita with Caesaraugusta (Zaragoza) by way of Toletum (Toledo), Complutum, Segontia and Bilbilis, a total run of 369 Roman miles. This road left Emerita to the east as a continuation of the decumanus maximus, and connected the capital of Lusitania with the central plateau and the Ebro valley.

What it is and what is left
It is worth noting that other roads also left through the eastern and south-eastern part of the municipality: the one which, from the kardo maximus, headed for Corduba — whose remains can be seen next to the Casa del Mitreo and on the Camino del Peral, and whose heir is today's Don Álvaro road — and the Via XXIV, which also reached Caesaraugusta but by way of Salamanca. Assigning this particular stretch to the Via XXV is therefore the most reasonable hypothesis from its position, not a fact confirmed by excavation.
There is no visible road surface at this point: the course is known from the study of the road corridor and from air-photo interpretation. Location approximate, on the line of the road.
